The Texas Rangers sent yet another signal to Jurickson Profar when they declined to include the once-elite prospect on their list of September call-ups.

Rumor Central

“There simply is no future in the organization for the player who was once the organization's player of the future,” writes Evan Grant of the Dallas Morning News.

The 24-year-old Profar was demoted to the minors in early July and was bypassed for promotions on several occasions. He hit .287/.383/.428 this season at Triple-A Round Rock.

The Rangers have tried Profar at several positions in the infield and outfield since his debut in 2012, but the Curacao native has yet to make a case for a permanent role. He is effectively blocked at several positions, most notably at shortstop and second base, where the Rangers are committed to Elvis Andrus and Rougned Odor.

As for potential trade options for Profar, Grant suggests the San Diego Padres, who need an upgrade at shortstop. Padres GM A.J. Preller was the assistant GM of the Rangers before heading to San Diego and is very familiar with Profar.

Profar has a .229 batting average and .309 OBP in 633 career big-league at-bats.
