No. 15: Brett Hundley, QB, UCLA
2012 numbers: Hundley threw for a league-high 3,740 yards, completing 318 passes on 478 attempts (66.5 percent). He tossed 29 touchdowns and also carried the ball 160 times for 355 yards and nine rushing touchdowns.
Preseason ranking: Unranked.
Making the case for Hundley: One of the most exciting young players in the Pac-12, Hundley helped lead a UCLA revival in 2012 that saw the Bruins in and out of the Top 25 rankings, win a Pac-12 South Division title (that didn't include an asterisk) and notch a victory over rival USC. The first year-starter took to Noel Mazzone's offense quickly and finished fourth in the conference in quarterback efficiency. His legs made him a very dangerous complement to Johnathan Franklin as the Bruins averaged 466.5 yards of offense per game and 34.4 points per game. Hundley finished second in the league in total offense and he was one of the just four quarterbacks in the league to start every game this season. He set UCLA records for single-season completions, passing yards and total offense. He also became the first UCLA player to throw for at least 300 yards in three straight games (Nebraska, Houston, Oregon State). Hundley is still an extremely raw player and he made a lot of the mistakes you would expect a young quarterback to make. Playing behind a young offensive line, Hundley took his lumps and was sacked 52 times. Only Washington State allowed more in the league. But Hundley's upside is tremendous. And after a highly-successful first season, it's possible he could garner Heisman attention in the coming years because of his style of play and the offense he plays in.
