College football's 2019 true freshman All-American team

Every year in college football, we see more and more true freshmen contributing on the field in a big way, and this season was no exception.

There were plenty of first-year players who moved from talented prospect with potential to starter moving up the stat sheet for their respective teams.

Now that the regular season is complete, Tom VanHaaren and Tom Luginbill take a look at the top performances from those players to announce ESPN's true freshman All-Americans.

Offense

Quarterback

Jayden Daniels, Arizona State

Daniels carried over a very impressive performance in the 2019 Under Armour All-America Game, leading the Sun Devils to seven wins, including a terrific performance in the upset over Oregon. In 11 starts, Daniels completed 62.3% of his passes for 2,748 yards and 17 touchdowns with only two interceptions. He added 319 yards rushing and three scores. In the last four games of the regular season, Daniels averaged 278 passing yards per game and tossed nine TDs without an interception. -- Luginbill

Sam Howell, North Carolina

Howell threw for 35 touchdowns this season, passing Trevor Lawrence's previous FBS record among true freshmen. Howell also had 3,347 yards and seven interceptions, helping lead North Carolina to a 6-6 record with wins over South Carolina and Miami and a one-point loss to Clemson. All six of North Carolina's losses had a difference of seven points or fewer, and the team averaged 469 total yards of offense per game with Howell at quarterback. -- VanHaaren
