Top-ranked Clemson was without two starters on defense for Saturday's 47-21 victory against Syracuse, as the school announced that tackle Tyler Davis and linebacker James Skalski were unavailable.
Coach Dabo Swinney said after the game that Skalski had a groin injury and was unable to play. He also said Davis "got rolled up" during practice this week and that the team hopes to have him back "sooner rather than later."
Davis was injured in the season opener and missed two games, but he returned and played the previous two weeks and was listed as the starter on the depth chart released this week.
Skalski ranked second on the team with 27 total tackles and also was listed as the starter on the depth chart.
In addition, starting cornerback Derion Kendrick didn't play after taking a hit to the knee during a collision, but Swinney said Kendrick "should be fine."
