Virginia starting quarterback Anthony Colandrea plans to enter the transfer portal, he said Monday.
"This decision was not made lightly, but I believe it is the best step for my academic and athletic future," Colandrea said in a statement posted to social media.
Colandrea started 11 games this season as a true sophomore, throwing for 2,125 yards, 13 touchdowns and 11 interceptions. He struggled in his last four starts, however, with seven interceptions and just two touchdowns.
Virginia benched him in favor of senior Tony Muskett for the regular-season finale against Virginia Tech with a chance to gain bowl eligibility. The Cavaliers lost anyway as they ended the season with losses in six of their last seven games.
With Colandrea transferring and Muskett exhausting his eligibility, Virginia will be in the market for a quarterback.
