Phil Parker promoted to DC in shakeup

Iowa has promoted defensive backs coach Phil Parker to defensive coordinator as part of a staff shakeup.

Parker replaces Norm Parker (no relation), who announced his retirement in December after 13 seasons at the school. Phil Parker has spent the past 13 seasons coaching defensive backs at Iowa after spending the previous 11 seasons coaching defensive backs at Toledo.

Head coach Kirk Ferentz also announced that offensive line coach Reese Morgan will now coach defensive line. Morgan replaces Rick Kaczenski, who left in December to coach Nebraska's defensive linemen.

Darrell Wilson, Iowa's linebackers coach for the past 10 seasons, now will coach defensive backs. The Hawkeyes have one defensive staff vacancy, which likely will be filled by administrative assistant LeVar Woods.

Iowa also must hire an offensive coordinator to replace Ken O'Keefe, who left last week for a post with the Miami Dolphins. The team also needs an offensive line coach to replace Morgan, who has coached offensive line for the past nine seasons.

"Phil, Darrell and Reese have all done an outstanding job in our program for a significant period of time," Ferentz said in a prepared statement. "I am confident they will have a very positive effect on our team as we transition forward."
