COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Oklahoma successfully defended its NCAA men's gymnastics title with a dominant performance in the finals.
The Sooners scored 443.4 points Saturday to beat runner-up Stanford by nearly 10 points for their 10th national title. It was the widest margin since the current scoring system was implemented in 2008.
"The guys hit 100 percent, and you can't ask any more than that," Sooners coach Mark Williams said. "We had a 10-point margin of victory, the largest of any we've had, and the guys were awesome all night. I am so excited for them because it's so hard to repeat. Back-to-back championship is pretty special."
Oklahoma joined Penn State (12) and Illinois (10) as the only schools with at least 10 team championships.
Yul Moldauer led Oklahoma with the top all-around score of 89.1. The Sooners also had the top three scores on floor exercise, with Colin Van Wicklen (15.3), Kanji Oyama (15.1) and Moldauer (15.0).
Stanford scored 434.05 points to edge third-place Ohio State (433.05). The Cardinal had the top score on two events: Akash Modi on parallel bars (15.3) and Dennis Zaremski on rings (15.45).
Modi and Ohio State's Alex Johnson tied for the top high bar score at 15.2. Brandon Ngai of Illinois was the pommel horse leader at 15.45. Anthony McCallum of Michigan led the vault at 15.55.
Illinois was fourth in the team competition, while Penn State and Minnesota lagged behind in fifth and sixth.
