India's Sandeep Kumar won a bronze in the men's 10,000m racewalk event with a personal best time on the penultimate day of the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham on Sunday.

Kumar clocked a time of 38:49.21m to finish behind gold winner Evan Dunfee (38:36.37) of Canada and Declan Tingay (38:42.33) of Australia.

Kumar's pace varied throughout, leading at the 1000m mark, before dropping back to 3rd around the 3000m mark. He went into the lead and remained there at the halfway point, before dropping back to 3rd. He alternated between 3rd and 2nd right until the final 1000m, where he remained in third right until the finish.

Kumar participated in the Rio and Tokyo Olympics for India, albeit in longer distances. He holds the national record for the men's 50km racewalk as well as the 20km racewalk as well.

The other Indian in the fray, Amit Khatri finished ninth with a season best time of 43:04.97.
