For the second time in four days Brock Parker sat behind a mound of WSOP-branded chips with a smile. Simply amazed, Parker was handed his second WSOP bracelet after winning Event 19, the $2,500 six-handed no-limit hold 'em event.
"I can't describe this," said Parker. "This is just unreal. It actually does not feel real to me."
Parker earned $552,745 for the victory which put him over the $1 million dollar mark in lifetime WSOP earnings. He became the 125th player to accomplish the feat, but the 27-year-old online superstar is far from done. There's still 37 more events to go and judging by his motivation to get back to the felt, he'll be quite busy for the next few weeks.
"I went out and I ate and went home and tried to sleep-- and I couldn't," Parker reflected on what he's been doing over the last four days. "So, I woke up with no sleep and played this tournament. Then, it was until 1 a.m. the first day and until 3 a.m. the second day I haven't had much time to do much else other than sleep and play poker."
Both of Parker's victories come in a six-handed variant. The first was limit hold 'em while this event was no-limit. In either case, Parker enjoys the short-handed format better as it allows him to play more hands and open up his game.
"I like to play more hands," he said. "Playing nine-handed is pretty boring. I guess six-handed gets more motivated because I get to play in a lot of pots."
Staying focused was a challenge for Parker, but unlike Event 14 when he had the audience cheering for Daniel Negreanu, the crowd was simply wondering if Parker could do it again. With this victory over 1,102 players, Parker now sits at the top of the Player of the Year standings.
"I'm excited for 'Player of the Year,'" he said. "I want to try for that, for sure. Especially now that they are making a big deal out of it."
There has been a double-bracelet winner every year since 1999, but can Parker join Phil Ivey's run in 2002 and win a third? There's only one thing for sure: he'll be playing in the next tournament he can.
Other notable finishers include Men Nguyen (16th), Blair Hinkle (26th) and Erick Lindgren (29th).
