Celebrated South African boxing trainer Nick Durandt has died in a bike accident near Clarens in the Free State.
Du Randt, who was the president of the Crusaders Bike Club, collided with a vehicle on the road between Bethlehem and Clarens on Friday afternoon. He died in hospital from the injuries sustained in the accident.
During his career he produced 95 South African champions, with 38 world champions and 27 international champions.
Durandt trained Philip Ndou for his showdown against Floyd Mayweather in 2003. Mayweather won the fight via a technical knockout in the seventh round. Durandt also Hasim Rahman defeat Lennox Lewis in Johannesburg in 2001.
Du Randt also trained world champions Thulani "Sugarboy" Malinga, Cassius Baloyi, Silence Mabuza, Isaac Hlatshwayo, Jacob Mofokeng, Jeffrey Mathebula, Malcolm Klassen, Siphiwe Nonqayi, Hawk Makepula, Zolani Tete and Moruti Mthalane.
Du Randt was the son of English footballer Cliff Du Randt, who played for Wolverhampton and Charlton.
