The International reclaimed its title as the tournament with the largest prize pool in esports Saturday as the Dota 2 event eclipsed the $30 million mark of the Fortnite World Cup.
The big event set for next month in Shanghai has been raking in contributions from fans via its in-game sales packages, and the prize pool sits at $30,092,2087 -- and counting -- as of Sunday afternoon.
The amount easily broke last year's record-setting $25.5 million for International 18 in Vancouver, B.C. It also jostled the title of biggest prize in esports away from Epic Games and the Fortnite World Cup on the week that event is slated to start. The Fortnite World Cup is scheduled to begin Friday in New York.
The base prize pool started at $1.6 million and has since grown by nearly 1,800 percent. Crowdfunding continues as well, with 35½ days remaining for the prize pool to continue to rise.
The International will be held from Aug. 15-25.
The 18 teams competing in the event are Team Secret, Virtus.pro, Vici Gaming, Evil Geniuses, Team Liquid, PSG.LGD, Fnatic, Ninjas in Pyjamas, TNC Predator, OG, Alliance, Keen Gaming, Mineski, Natus Vincere, Infamous, Royal Never Give Up, Chaos Esports Club and Forward Gaming.
