eUnited rallied for a 3-2 victory over 100 Thieves on Sunday to win the Call of Duty World League Championship and claim the $800,000 first prize in Los Angeles.
The squad, led by tournament MVP Chris "Simp" Lehr, also included James "Clayster" Eubanks, Alec "Arcitys" Sanderson, Preston "Prestinni" Sanderson and Tyler "aBeZy" Pharris. That roster also triumphed at the CWL Pro League Finals in Miami last month for back-to-back championship titles.
The showdown began with eUnited taking Game 1 with a dominant 250-126 win on Seaside Hardpoint. But 100 Thieves responded with a 6-3 win on Hacienda Search and Destroy and a 3-1 win on Frequency Control for the 2-1 edge in the best-of-five series.
eUnited won Arsenal Hardpoint 250-219 to force a decisive fifth map and then beat 100 Thieves 6-4 on Arsenal Search and Destroy to wrap up the series.
The $2 million, 32-team tournament began with eight pools of four teams each, with round-robin play starting Wednesday and finishing Thursday. The top two teams from each group advanced to the double-elimination knockout stage, which comprised best-of-five matches from Friday through Sunday's final.
100 Thieves lost in the first round of the upper bracket, meaning they had to win six lower-bracket matches just to reach the final, including three matches earlier Sunday. They beat Team Reciprocity 3-1 to open the day and then swept Enigma6 Group and OpTic Gaming back-to-back to reach the matchup with eUnited.
After opening against OpTic with a 250-210 win on Seaside Hardpoint, 100 Thieves followed up with a 6-4 win on Arsenal Search and Destroy and a 3-0 win on Arsenal Control.
eUnited had moved on to the Grand Final by beating OpTic 3-1 in the winners bracket finals. OpTic opened with a dominant 250-109 win on Frequency Hardpoint, but eUnited answered with a 6-5 win on Payload Search and Destroy. They completed the victory with a 3-0 victory on Frequency Control and a crushing 250-52 win on Arsenal Hardpoint.
Enigma6 had swept Units 3-0 in the other lower-bracket match earlier Sunday.
