Things are about to get very interesting in fantasy land, as reports indicate that DeMarcus Cousins could make his Golden State debut as early as Friday against the LA Clippers.
Cousins is coming off one of the most devastating injuries an NBA player can suffer -- a torn Achilles heel -- and there are no certainties that he will be the superstar big man he was before the injury. And even if he looks like the same player, he's not going to put up the stats he put up in Sacramento and New Orleans on such a loaded Warriors roster.
He moves up to No. 31 in this weeks rankings, nevertheless.
Warriors coach Steve Kerr has already announced plans to insert Cousins into the starting lineup immediately upon his return, and we have to think his presence will cut into the production of the big-name Warriors. For that reason, Stephen Curry falls to No. 6, Kevin Durant to 9, Klay Thompson to 46 and Draymond Green to 49 this week.
Sacramento's hot-shooting Buddy Hield (42) joins Cousins on the list of notable risers, along with three Washington players -- Bradley Beal (16), Otto Porter Jr. (53) and Trevor Ariza (55).
Will Barton returned to the Nuggets' lineup after missing virtually the entire season, and the versatile swingman bumps up to 67. He hasn't done a whole lot in his first games, however, averaging 6.5 PPG in 15.0 MPG, so there's a chance it could take some patience waiting for Barton to get back in game shape.
At No. 85, Justin Holiday is another riser who warrants attention in the coming weeks, as Kyle Anderson is sidelined 2-4 weeks due to a Grade 2 ankle sprain. Holiday hasn't put up big numbers since being traded from Chicago to Memphis, but that could change with Anderson out of the lineup.
Two other guards to crack the top 100 this week are Derrick White (97) in San Antonio and Tomas Satoransky (98) in Washington. White has turned into an extremely efficient option at point guard during the past month, shooting 57.6 percent during that span. Meanwhile, Satoransky continues to fill in nicely in place of John Wall, stuffing the stat sheet in the rebounds, assists and steals categories. The more he plays, the more he's going to produce.
Among those to drop out of this week's rankings are injured veterans Jonas Valanciunas and J.J. Barea. Valanciunas is expected to require another four weeks of rehab before returning to the Toronto lineup, while the 34-year-old Barea was lost for the season due to a torn right Achilles' tendon.
In addition, Paul Millsap's dwindling production -- particularly in the rebound department -- cause him to drop to 89, and Ricky Rubio's hamstring injury (expected to sideline him another week and a half) drops him to 94.
The aforementioned Anderson (116) and Larry Nance Jr. (118) had both been playing their best ball of the season as recently as last week, but injuries have changed all that. Nance (knee) could be out up to two weeks.
