Cavani 7/10, Lindelof 5/10 as Man United draw Arsenal and fall further behind rivals City in the title race

Arsenal and Manchester United played out a goalless draw as the visitors' winless run against the Gunners extended to six Premier League games.

An already chilly evening at the Emirates will have been felt even more by the men between the sticks, as an intriguing battle delivered plenty of entertainment but nothing in the way of goals.

The hosts' best chance saw Alexandre Lacazette's free kick rattle the woodwork with David De Gea well-beaten, while at the other end, Edinson Cavani's improvised effort was inches away from snatching a dramatic winner in the final minutes.

Positives

If nothing else, Solskjaer's men at least avoided a third successive defeat against the Gunners, and their impressive unbeaten run away from home now stands at 18 games. On another day Cavani's late effort might well have snuck into the bottom corner too.

Negatives

The Red Devils have now scored just once in their last five against Arsenal, while one point from a possible six means the Red Devils have now slipped three points behind rivals City having played a game more.

Manager rating out of 10

6 -- Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will have had mixed feelings about this one. His side started well and dominated in spells, but they failed to make it count and the hosts enjoyed the better of things after the break.

Player ratings (1-10; 10 = best. Players introduced after 70 minutes get no rating)

GK David De Gea, 6 -- Produced a couple of routine saves to keep out a Lacazette swirling strike and Granit Xhaka's glancing header before the break, but wasn't really tested until Emile Smith Rowe forced him into a smart stop in the 67th minute.

DF Aaron Wan-Bissaka, 7 -- A tireless performance from the full-back who looked to contribute to Cedric Soares' nightmare with a series of energetic bursts to support Marcus Rashford, and thwarted Willian with one huge block.

DF Victor Lindelof, 5 -- It all looked a bit ominous when the defender misjudged Cedric's free kick which was turned back across the face of goal, but to the Swede's relief United survived.

DF Harry Maguire, 6 -- The defender denied Nicolas Pepe with a vital block, but his heart will have been pounding when Lacazette's free kick shook the woodwork after his foul on the Frenchman.

DF Luke Shaw, 6 -- Invited some early pressure when he cynically hauled down Nicolas Pepe having allowed the latter to skip past his initial challenge. He responded well though, and his teasing low cross almost picked out Cavani for a tap-in.

MF Fred, 6 -- The Brazil man was agonisingly close to opening the scoring following some tidy chest control, but his lifted strike from the edge of the box was just about clawed away by Bernd Leno.

MF Scott McTominay, 5 -- The tough-tackling midfielder has been in fine form this campaign, but he found himself struggling with apparent stomach pain early on and was withdrawn in the 37th minute.

MF Paul Pogba, 6 -- The 27-year-old has relished life this term and he produced a lovely twist to lose his marker before scooping the ball to Rashford, who had the ball nicked away from him at the last second. Delightful stuff though, and he chipped in defensively too.

MF Bruno Fernandes, 7 -- United's talisman has shown plenty of fire in recent weeks and an aerial duel with Cedric left him with a bee in his bonnet. He looked to turn that passion into productivity though, and he was inches from finding the corner after running at David Luiz.

FW Marcus Rashford, 7 -- There are few players with better feet than the forward. Caused problems for Cedric and left Granit Xhaka in his tracks with a glorious nutmeg but couldn't quite get a shot away after more excellent footwork in the box later on.

FW Edinson Cavani, 7 -- The veteran striker is really starting to find his groove for United. Will rue missing an absolute sitter after a brilliant cross from Shaw and later came desperately close to the winner when his acrobatic effort just about crept wide.

Substitutes

FW Anthony Martial, 6 -- Called upon earlier than he probably would have expected, but despite playing the best part of an hour including stoppage time, he was eerily quiet and failed to get on the end of Mason Greenwood's slipped pass late in the contest.

FW Mason Greenwood, N/R -- Replaced Rashord for the final nine minutes or so. He almost picked out Martial in the dying stages, but he didn't really have much time to make an impact beyond that.
