The numbers that put Aizawl on the brink of history

So it comes down to next Sunday's matches, with Aizawl FC needing a draw at Shillong Lajong to seal the 2017 I-League title and Mohun Bagan needing to beat Chennai City FC at home and also hoping for Aizawl to lose. There's no way of predicting what could happen but we look at some key numbers that could boost Aizawl's confidence further - or give Mohun Bagan some straws to clutch at.

In Aizawl's corner:

11

The number of wins achieved by Aizawl FC this season is the most by any team, and shall remain so. Their nearest competitors are Mohun Bagan with nine, and have only one match to play now.

3

Aizawl FC's three away wins this year are the joint-second best among all ten teams. East Bengal with five wins on the road lead the way, while Aizawl are tied for second place with Shillong Lajong. Aizawl's three away wins this year have come against Mumbai FC, DSK Shivajians and Churchill Brothers.

10

The number of away goals struck by Aizawl FC this season, which is the third-best among all teams. The team which leads the chart in this regard is East Bengal, who have 16 goals away from home, and Shillong Lajong have 11 away goals. The team with least away goals is Chennai City FC - Mohun Bagan's next opponent in Kolkata - whose three goals have come in two games, also the dubious distinction for least away matches scored in by a team.

13

Aizawl FC have amassed 13 player-of-the-match awards in 17 games this season, with Zohmingliana Ralte becoming the ninth different player to have picked up at least one for the season in the 1-0 win over Mohun Bagan, who themselves have had four of their players pick up the award five times in their matches, with Sony Norde the only one to have done so more than once.

In Mohun Bagan's corner:

2

Mohun Bagan have only lost two matches in the I-League 2017 season. Their first defeat came away to Churchill Brothers on March 4, and their next game was at home against Mumbai FC, which they drew 2-2. This time, after a defeat, a draw won't suffice for Bagan.

1

Other than Aizawl FC, Mohun Bagan are the only team unbeaten at home this I-League season. While Aizawl have a record of eight wins and one draw from their nine games, Bagan have a similar record of having dropped just two points from their eight home matches.

17

The number of goals scored by Mohun Bagan in matches played at the Rabindra Sarobar Stadium, with only five goals conceded, and three clean sheets, in six matches played there as a home venue.

5

The number of goals scored by Shillong Lajong in three I-League matches against Aizawl FC, at the expense of three conceded. Lajong won both their encounters last year, including 3-1 when playing at home, though Aizawl got their first win in the home leg this year with a 2-1 victory. Last year, Lajong's coach Thangboi Singto drew both matches against Khalid Jamil, who was then with Mumbai FC, 2-2 in Mumbai and 0-0 at home.

8

The record for most clean sheets by a goalkeeper in the season is jointly held by Albino Gomes of Aizawl FC and Mohun Bagan's Debjit Majumder, with eight each for the year. Mohun Bagan have one extra clean sheet, with Shilton Paul in goal, while Gomes has played each minute of every game for Aizawl this season.
