Achraf Hakimi added his name to the illustrious list of African players who have won Serie A, as Internazionale finally got over the line and clinched the title, although there was heartbreak for Simy Nwankwo as Crotone's relegation was finally confirmed.
Here are the highs and the lows from Africa's players in Europe over the last few days.
Hakimi joins Africa's Serie A winners
Some of Africa's biggest players of the last 30 years have enjoyed success in the Italian top flight, but it's been many years since one of the continent's stars was as influential in a Scudetto victory as Hakimi this season.
Of course, legends like George Weah and Samuel Eto'o were key men in league triumphs for AC Milan and Internazionale respectively, while Ghanaian midfield trio Kwadwo Asamoah, Kevin-Prince Boateng, and Sulley Muntari all made big contributions as they each conquered the Italian top flight.
This weekend, Hakimi became the first African Serie A winner since his compatriot Medhi Benatia with Juventus in 2018-19, although it's worth noting that the centre-back departed the club midway through that campaign.
One has to go all the way back to Asamoah in the 2013-14 season to find an African player who could rival Hakimi for influence in a Scudetto triumph, with the Ghana wideman making the Serie A Team of the Year as Juve clinched the title. Hakimi will surely be in contention to make the Serie A XI this season, following an excellent maiden campaign in Italy.
A natural fit for Antonio Conte's 3-4-3 formation, the North African has brought his attacking talents to bear in a near league and a new environment this term after starring for Borussia Dortmund on loan last season.
To date, he has had a hand in 13 goals this season [scoring seven and contributing six assists], while his lung-busting running down the right flank has given Inter another attacking thrust going forward and added an extra dimension to Conte's side.
This weekend, he again delivered the goods, scoring in the 91st minute after fine work from Nicolo Barella, to ensure Inter defeated Crotone 2-0 to confirm themselves as Serie A champions for the first time in 11 years.
Of course, the likes of Romelu Lukaku and Christian Eriksen will be lauded for the prominent roles they played in Inter's triumph, but Hakimi too has been a vital addition to the side and finally got his hands on the silverware that eluded him in Germany.
Perhaps understandably, his success in Italy has prompted speculation of a return to Real Madrid, the club who sold him to Inter for a reported €40 million in July, and don't be surprised if Hakimi is linked to some of Europe's biggest clubs again this summer.
Heartbreak for free-scoring Simy
While there was delight for one of Africa's top stars as Inter dispatched Crotone, another endured heartache, as Simy Nwankwo's relegation to Serie B was confirmed.
The towering striker can't have done too much more to try to save the Sharks, having become both the top scoring Nigerian in Serie A and the top scoring Nigerian in a single season in a major European league during a goal-laden campaign.
However, despite scoring 12 goals in his previous nine matches before the Inter game, becoming the league's joint-third highest goalscorer in the process, Simy's side have been woeful at the back by conceding 85 this term, and won just five matches.
Having proven himself (again) in the Italian top flight, a return to Serie B can surely be avoided for the 19-goal frontman, for whom a transfer to one of Europe's more prominent clubs may lead to a return to international reckoning.
"I've never stopped following his performances," Nigeria boss Gernot Rohr told Europa Calcio recently, "but I believe that next year he must go and play in a club and in a team that is stronger than Crotone."
There's no pleasing some people, although Victor Osimhen's fifth goal in six games, as Napoli were held 1-1 by Cagliari, will have been welcomed by the Super Eagles coach.
Legendary African wideman Gervinho also plunged into the second tier with Parma on Monday after they were defeated 1-0 by Torino, and it remains to be seen if he will see out the final year of his contract in Serie B.
Elsewhere in Europe...
In the Bundesliga on Monday, Kenya's Phillipp Mwene extended his fine form with his first ever Bundesliga goal as Mainz held Hertha Berlin 1-1 at home to pull six points clear of the bottom three and denying the capital club the chance to boost their survival hopes.
Having not registered a goal contribution in his first 14 Bundesliga outings of the season, Mwene now has two assists and one goal in his last four appearances in the top flight, including an assist in the shock victory over Bayern Munich last weekend.
This was a stunning effort from the utility man, as he extended Mainz's undefeated streak with a delicious curling effort from the edge of the penalty area.
Also on Monday evening, Mbaye Diagne struck his third Premier League goal as West Bromwich Albion held Wolverhampton Wanderers, although it's surely only a matter of time before the Baggies' relegation to the Championship is confirmed.
Fabio Silva had already given the lead before Diagne, picked out by Conor Townsend's cross in the 62nd minute, headed home from close range, although further missed chances denied WBA all three points.
It was his first goal since the Throstles' stunned Chelsea 5-2 at StamfordBridge, and while the Senegal forward has helped the club improve their fortunes under Sam Allardyce, a return of three goals has not been enough to truly improve their survival prospects.
There was no sign of Cote d'Ivoire defender Willy Boly for Wolves, with the West African defender still suffering the after effects of a Covid-19 diagnosis after picking up the virus while on international duty with the Elephants in March.
"He's in a tough moment. He was infected and this week he was not able to train," Wolves head coach Nuno Espirito Santo told Sky Sports.
"His heart rate increases very fast so we have to look. He's doing exams and analysis to see if there's any other issue. I hope not. I hope resting him and medically things will improve.
"After Covid everyone has to look at the after effects of Boly and many other players. We must be aware of that. His energy is not there. He feels tired and he's not able to sustain the level of training that we want."
Also in the Premier League this weekend, both Mohamed Elneny and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang were among the goals as Arsenal defeated Newcastle United 2-0 in a lethargic encounter.
The Egypt midfielder ended his 64-game wait for a first Prem goal with a delightful effort from outside the area after Aubameyang had fluffed his lines, although the Gabon striker, still recovering from a bout of malaria, made amends with an excellent volley just after the hour mark.
It's been a troubled campaign for the 31-year-old, who has endured loss of form and had to take a leave of absence to attend to his unwell mother, but this was an enduring reminder of his finishing ability.
