Liverpool end talks with Borussia Dortmund over Divock Origi transfer - sources

Liverpool have broken off talks with Borussia Dortmund about a transfer for Divock Origi, sources have confirmed to ESPN FC.

Origi is a striker on Dortmund's radar, but they were only keen on taking him on loan, with Liverpool adamant that they will only sanction a permanent departure.

Sources said Liverpool have made it clear to Origi's representatives that he will not be leaving Anfield temporarily before the end of the European transfer window.

Jurgen Klopp is prepared to have Origi as part of his squad at least until January unless Liverpool receive an offer that is around their £27 million asking price.

Origi faces stiff competition for first-team opportunities this season, with Mohamed Salah, Roberto Firmino, Sadio Mane, Daniel Sturridge and Xherdan Shaqiri all ahead of him in the pecking order.

He spent last season on loan at Wolfsburg before returning to Liverpool, where he would be given the chance to claim a place in Klopp's plans going forward.

The 23-year-old then rejected the opportunity to join Wolverhampton Wanderers after they agreed a £22m deal plus add-ons, a source has told ESPN FC.

Origi has not been part of the matchday squad for Liverpool's first two games.
