Diego Contento joins Bordeaux

Diego Contento has completed his move to Bordeaux from Bayern Munich, signing a four-year deal with the Ligue 1 club.

Contento, 24, passed a medical in south-west France on Monday before putting pen to paper with the 2008-09 French champions, where he will be coached by former Bayern full-back Willy Sagnol.

"Bordeaux is a new challenge," Contento, who made only 49 Bundesliga appearances for Bayern over five seasons, told media at his unveiling on Tuesday. "I'm very happy to be here. Willy Sagnol played a major role in my coming here.

"I signed here because I want to play, to fulfil the club's objectives and put myself in contention for the national team. The squad has welcomed me well. I am going to have to learn French to settle in quickly."

Sagnol, who enjoyed a 1-0 win over Montpellier in the first competitive game of his club coaching career when Ligue 1 kicked off last weekend, has maintained strong links with Bayern, where he spent nearly nine years as a player, since the injury-enforced end to his career in February 2009.

With Bordeaux allowing Lucas Orban to move to Valencia on Monday, Sagnol believes he has the ideal replacement for the Argentine in the shape of Contento.

"Diego's profile suits us perfectly: a modern full-back, good going forward, a good crosser of the ball," the former French international right-back explained. "It was a coherent choice in terms of the kind of game we want to play. And he'll be ready to play Monaco this weekend."

Contento won three Bundesliga titles and as many DFB Pokals during his time at the Allianz Arena, but made just 49 league appearances -- including only 10 last season -- for the four-time European champions.

He will replace Lucas Orban at Bordeaux with the Argentine having completed a move to Valencia on Monday.
