Injured Portland Timbers goalkeeper Adam Kwarasey will be out much longer than previously expected, coach Caleb Porter said on Monday.
Kwarasey was expected to miss only four weeks of action after tearing a ligament in his hand on April 16, but Porter told reporters that the goalkeeper will now be sidelined until early July.
The Timbers are battling a number of injuries, with striker Fanendo Adi the latest after leaving Sunday's game with a hamstring injury.
Porter said Adi would undergo an MRI to determine the extend of the injury.
Winger Darren Mattocks and midfielder Diego Chara were both injured in last week's game against FC Dallas.
"We've had 11 injuries. Everyone's good at finding stats -- might want to find that stat," Porter said. "We've had 11 injuries in 11 games and nine of the injuries have been to starting players. That is a factor."
To help replace the injured players, the Timbers announced the signing of veteran MLS midfielder Amobi Okugo.
Okugo, 25, spent five seasons with the Philadelphia Union after being selected in the 2010 draft from UCLA.
He joined Orlando City ahead of the club's first MLS season last year and was traded to Sporting Kansas City in July.
Okugo, a former U.S. youth international, has made 111 starts in MLS, scoring five goals.
