Wester Sydney's Scott Jamieson joins Swedish club IFK Goteborg

Western Sydney have confirmed the departure of A-League defender Scott Jamieson, who is poised to join Swedish giants IFK Goteborg.

Jamieson has reportedly agreed to a one-year deal with Goteborg, with an option for a second year, after the club's initial move for the experienced left-back had been rejected last month by the Wanderers.

Jamieson, 27, had a year left to run on his contract with the Wanderers but was able to leave because his release clause, reportedly around $200,000, was triggered.

The Wanderers did not confirm Jamieson's destination but the former Socceroo said it had been an "incredible experience" to play for his hometown club.

"I might sound a bit biased but, having grown up in the area, it was an absolute honour to play for the Wanderers and who knows what might happen in the future?" he said.

"Making the decision to leave was about taking an opportunity for a new experience.

"I want to embrace a new culture which is something that I feel as a person excites me.

"It was a hard decision; playing for this club was truly rewarding on a professional and personal level.

"It took something big for me to leave and this opportunity is that."

Jamieson only joined the Wanderers in May last year, but played all bar four minutes of their entire 2015-16 campaign, including the FFA Cup.

The move is his second foray into European football, having spent two years in the Bolton Wanderers academy system before joining Adelaide United in 2008.

It also means the Wanderers need to find a new left-back, which will be difficult given the shortage of free-agent Australian players on the market with less than two months before the new A-League season begins.

Utility Shannon Cole is the only Western Sydney player remaining with experience in the position.
