Scott Jamieson joins Melbourne City after IFK Goteborg stint ends

Former Socceroos defender Scott Jamieson has joined Melbourne City in his return to the A-League after a year-long stint in Europe.

The 28-year-old left Australia for Swedish giants IFK Goteborg after playing for Western Sydney in the Grand Final loss to Adelaide United last year.

He joins last year's FFA Cup winners City on a four-year deal.

Left-footed Jamieson, who has four Australian caps, made 13 appearances in Sweden's top-flight Allsvenskan.

New City coach Warren Joyce said Jamieson's A-League experience with the Wanderers, Perth Glory, Sydney FC and Adelaide was a drawcard.

"We've identified the need for a left-sided player who can fit our system and Scott not only possesses the right experience in this league, but also a strong determination and attitude that will complement the character of our squad," Joyce said.

Jamieson joins goalkeeper Eugene Galekovic as City's key signings for the offseason, while Paulo Retre, Thomas Sorensen and Corey Gameiro are among those who have departed.
