U.S. international Bobby Wood may miss Hannover game after call-up

United States international Bobby Wood could miss Hannover's game against RB Leipzig on Sept. 15 as he returns from national team duty.

Wood, 25, has won 39 caps and was selected last week by interim manager Dave Sarachan for friendlies against Brazil on Friday and Mexico on Sept. 11.

However, Hannover is not unhappy with the arrangement as it wants him to work on his match fitness.

"We'll see in which shape he'll return," Hannover coach Andre Breitenreiter told Bild. "I won't rule out that he makes the trip to Leipzig."

Having left relegated Hamburg on loan in July, Wood made his first appearance for Hannover in the goalless draw against Borussia Dortmund on Friday, coming off the bench in the second half and nearly scoring his first goal for the team in the final minutes.

Wolfsburg's John Brooks is set to return to Germany after playing against Brazil, but Hannover did not consider asking U.S. Soccer to allow Wood the same treatment.

"We've discussed it, but those are special matches for Bobby," Breitenreiter said. "It's important he remains with his national team and he gets playing time against strong opponents."
