Seattle Sounders' Chad Marshall has red card vs. Sporting KC rescinded

The red card issued to Seattle Sounders FC defender Chad Marshall during a Sept. 1 game against Sporting KC was unanimously rescinded by The Independent Panel.

The panel consists of a representative from the United States Soccer Federation and the Canadian Soccer Federation, along with a representative from the Professional Referee Organization.

Marshall was given a red card by referee Baldomero Toledo after Video Review for a challenge on Johnny Russell in the 81st minute of the 3-1 victory.

"I'm pretty confident that that's going to get overturned," Sounders FC coach Brian Schmetzer told reporters earlier this week.

With the ruling, Marshall will have his fine and one-game suspension rescinded, meaning he will be available for the Sounders' next game on Sept. 15 at the Vancouver Whitecaps.

Each MLS team is entitled to two unsuccessful appeals per season, including the playoffs. With Seattle's successful appeal of Marshall's red card, the team retains its two unsuccessful appeals.

Seattle has won a post-shootout era record eight-consecutive games.
