Uganda goalkeeper Robert Odongkara has signed for Ethiopia Premier League side Adama City FC on a two-year contract.

The experienced goalkeeper ended his time with record 29-time league champions Saint George SC to head to Adama City.

"I am happy that I have signed for a new club to start a new challenge in my career," the stopper told KweséESPN. "I have been with Saint George for seven seasons, and I thank them for giving me that opportunity."

The former SC Villa goalkeeper was part of Uganda's squad at the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations in Gabon, where he was the understudy for captain Denis Onyango.

Odongkara replaced Onyango at Saint George, where he helped them win five league titles and was voted as the best goalkeeper in the league five times.

"I look forward to working hard with my new team so that I can get back to the national team," the keeper added.

Odongkara was part of the team that picked up a vital away win in Cape Verde last year at the start of the 2019 AFCON qualifying campaign.

However, since Sebastien Desabre took over the Cranes last December, the 29-year old goalkeeper has been overlooked.

El Merreikh's Salim Jamal Magoola and KCCA FC's Charles Lukwago are the preferred backups to Onyango.

There's a strong tradition of Ugandan players in the Ethiopian top flight, with Hassan Wasswa Mawanda, Isaac Isinde, Robert Ssentongo and Brian Umony some of the names who have featured in the division.
