South Africa's Nicole Garcia set the pace on four under on day one of the Lalla Meryem Cup in Morocco following a 68 which featured four birdies in her last seven holes.
Garcia finished the day with a two-shot lead over her fellow South African and room-mate Stacy Bregman, as well as German duo Isi Gabsa and Laura Fuenfstueck.
"I started off a little rocky and I don't think I hit a green until maybe the sixth hole, so I had a lot of up and downs and some good saves and that got the momentum going," Garcia said.
"On the back nine I hit a few good shots but the putting was good. I'm very pleased, especially after the front nine."
England's Florentyna Parker and Wales' Lydia Hall are three shots off the lead after the first day.
Parker and Hall carded opening rounds of 71 on the Blue Course at Royal Golf Dar Es Salam, with the Red Course staging the European Tour's Hassan Trophy at the same time.
Both players carded two birdies and a solitary bogey to finish one under par.
