PRATTVILLE, Ala. -- Third-round leader Patrick Moore was
declared the winner of the rain-shortened Buy.com Tour Championship
on Sunday, finishing on top of the money list and leading 15
players who earned promotions to the PGA Tour.
Moore, who won for the third time this year, birdied three of
four holes Sunday morning to complete a 6-under 66 that left him at
10-under 206 after 54 holes.
Half the field failed to finish the final round before heavy
rain left the Capitol Hill's Senator Course on the Robert Trent
Jones Golf Trail unplayable.
Moore earned $108,000 for the victory and moved into the top
spot on the Buy.com money list with $381,965. His third victory of
the year earned him a ``battlefield promotion'' to the PGA Tour, so
he is eligible to compete in this week's Southern Farm Bureau
Classic.
Steven Alker, Mike Heinen and Jeff Klauk tied for second at
8-under 208.
The top 15 players on the money list earned exemptions to the
2003 PGA Tour. For the first time since 1993, a player in the top
15 entering this event wasn't bumped out.
Also earning PGA Tour exemptions were: Arron Oberholser, Doug
Baron, Alker, Cliff Kresge, Jason Gore, Todd Fischer, Marco Dawson,
Darron Stiles, Aaron Baddeley, Jason Buha, Patrick Sheehan, Gavin
Coles, Tadd Riddings and Todd Barranger.
The Tour Championship was the final event under Buy.com's
sponsorship. Nationwide has agreed to become the title sponsor of
the tour for five years, beginning in January.
