Huskies snare guard Daniel Hamilton

FRISCO, Texas -- Following a Nike EYBL game Friday night, guard Daniel Hamilton (Los Angeles/St. John Bosco) committed to Connecticut.

Hamilton is ESPN's No. 27 overall junior. The 6-foot-6 wing is the brother of former Texas guard Jordan Hamilton and UTEP-bound wing Isaac Hamilton.

The commitment to Connecticut gives coach Kevin Ollie a 1-2 punch in the Huskies backcourt in the fall of 2014. Transfer Rodney Purvis is eligible and will enter the rotation alongside Hamilton.

When Isaac Hamilton selected UTEP over a host of Pac-12 programs last year, the family cited a long-standing relationship with the Miners staff. As a result, when Isaac committed to UTEP, other programs not only backed off Isaac, but also Daniel. However, one of the coaches who recruited Isaac was Ollie, and he never stopped recruiting Daniel.

"He recruited me and Isaac at Crenshaw," Daniel Hamilton said. "When Isaac committed he never stopped. A lot of the coaches that recruited Isaac stopped recruiting me.

"It's an up-and-coming program. Me and Coach Ollie have a great relationship. I knew him before he got the job there. It's an opportunity for me to come in and step in and do some damage."

Hamilton is a noted scorer. He's uniquely long and programmed to get to the rim. He'll be the fourth Hamilton brother to play college basketball; older brother Gary Hamilton played for the Miami Hurricanes.
