The Colorado Rockies received good news about Wilin Rosario, who was diagnosed with a contusion to his left hand Monday after an MRI revealed no broken bones or structural damage to the power-hitting catcher's hand or wrist.
Rockies head trainer Keith Dugger told reporters Monday that Rosario is day to day.
"That's good news," Rosario said, according to MLB.com. "I haven't even tried to pick up the bat yet, but I will [Tuesday]. They'll probably give me another day. That's a big relief."
Rosario, 25, originally suffered the injury last week and has missed Colorado's last two games. He acknowledged that he still is experiencing inflammation in his hand/wrist area and said he is unsure when he will return to the lineup.
"I didn't feel like I broke anything," Rosario said, according to the Denver Post. "I just feel some [discomfort] in my hand. They did the MRI to make sure nothing was wrong. There is still inflammation, so maybe it's one more day. I don't know. I will try tomorrow, maybe, to hit."
Rosario is batting .244 with three home runs and 13 RBIs in 22 games. Manager Walt Weiss said Jordan Pacheco likely will continue to start at catcher during Rosario's absence.
Rosario batted .292 last season and had 21 homers -- tied for the most among National League catchers.
