The Atlanta Braves called up Jimmy Herget for the first time since he was acquired in a trade earlier this month and optioned fellow right-hander Darius Vines to Triple-A Gwinnett.
Herget, 30, was designated for assignment by the Los Angeles Angels earlier this season and traded to the Braves for cash considerations May 2. In 16 appearances at both Triple-A Salt Lake and Gwinnett, he was 1-2 with a 3.93 ERA.
In five major league seasons, the past three of which were with the Angels, Herget was 7-8 with a 3.47 ERA in 121 appearances (three starts).
Vines, 26, was 0-1 with a 7.82 ERA in three appearances (two starts) for the Braves this season. He has gone 1-1 with a 5.45 ERA in eight appearances for Atlanta since he made his major league debut last season.
