Cleveland Indians right-hander Trevor Bauer is spending his nights a bit differently now that baseball season is over.
On Friday, a fan reached out to Bauer on Twitter to ask him a question about flying his drone. Bauer famously sliced his pinky finger open while toying with his drone, pushing back his start against the Toronto Blue Jays in the American League Division Series.
@BauerOutage when you are in Ohio where do you fly your drone+ how much did your drone cost?
— Maddie Martin (@m_martin2021) November 12, 2016
@m_martin2021 I find a park with no people at it and depending what gear I have on it between 350 and 1000 ish each
— Trevor Bauer (@BauerOutage) November 12, 2016
@BauerOutage what is it's battery life?
— Maddie Martin (@m_martin2021) November 12, 2016
@m_martin2021 2:30-4 minutes depending on flying style for the day
— Trevor Bauer (@BauerOutage) November 12, 2016
@BauerOutage ah nice and btw I have people asking my why I'm shaking I got so exited that you responded😂
— Maddie Martin (@m_martin2021) November 12, 2016
That turned into Martin asking Bauer for help solving a math problem. Bauer, who studied mechanical engineering at UCLA, was happy to offer his knowledge.
@BauerOutage oh and also do you understand the slope of a line and y intercept? I have a math test coming up I don't get certain things
— Maddie Martin (@m_martin2021) November 12, 2016
@m_martin2021 what's the question
— Trevor Bauer (@BauerOutage) November 12, 2016
@BauerOutage I'm not home but I'll try to remember it's like y•2=x and you have to graph it on the line and say the y intercept
— Maddie Martin (@m_martin2021) November 12, 2016
@m_martin2021 for every 1 unit on the x axis go 2 units on the y axis. y intercept is where it crosses the y axis. Make y 0 and figure x.
— Trevor Bauer (@BauerOutage) November 12, 2016
@BauerOutage ok so I checked the website on my phone and I will get 2/5 as the slope but the right answer is 2 so I will put 2& its wrong
— Maddie Martin (@m_martin2021) November 12, 2016
@m_martin2021 how do you come up with 2/5?
— Trevor Bauer (@BauerOutage) November 12, 2016
@BauerOutage my math teacher told me that when the rise is 2 and the run is 5 the slope is 2/5 but now when we have to graph it won't work
— Maddie Martin (@m_martin2021) November 12, 2016
@m_martin2021 that's correct but where did the 5 come from??
— Trevor Bauer (@BauerOutage) November 12, 2016
@BauerOutage there are like 2 points on a graph and you find out the slope of the 2 points and you would move up 2 and over 5 to get to the
— Maddie Martin (@m_martin2021) November 12, 2016
@m_martin2021 might just be a flaw in the website then. That happens sometimes
— Trevor Bauer (@BauerOutage) November 12, 2016
Martin wasn't home when she initially asked the question but sent a photo of the problem to Bauer once she arrived back at her house.
@BauerOutage the question is y-8=x and it says to plot (-2,6) (0,8) (2,10) and I don't get where they got that pic.twitter.com/CKOEE7rTq4
— Maddie Martin (@m_martin2021) November 12, 2016
@m_martin2021 (-4,4) also works, as does (5,13) etc
— Trevor Bauer (@BauerOutage) November 12, 2016
@BauerOutage ooohhh I think I got it now thank you so much
— Maddie Martin (@m_martin2021) November 12, 2016
Martin got the problem right, thanks to Bauer's help.
@m_martin2021 hope that helped!
— Trevor Bauer (@BauerOutage) November 12, 2016
@BauerOutage it did! I got the question right and I never would have without your help thank you you have no idea how much that meant to me
— Maddie Martin (@m_martin2021) November 12, 2016
Happy I could help! Good luck on the test! https://t.co/ufElqh7i6m
