Roy Hibbert opts in at $15.5M for final season of contract with Pacers

Indiana Pacers center Roy Hibbert has officially filed the required paperwork to opt into the final season of his current contract with the team, according to league sources.

Sources told ESPN.com that Hibbert faced a June 29 deadline to either lock himself into next season's scheduled $15.5 million with the Pacers or become a free agent July 1.

But sources say the Pacers plan to explore the trade market for Hibbert this summer as they seek to reshape the team around star swingman Paul George, who played the final six games of the season for Indiana after suffering a horrific compound leg fracture in the summer of 2014 while on Team USA duty in Las Vegas.

Veteran forward David West, another mainstay of Indiana's success in recent seasons alongside George and Hibbert, made the decision earlier this week to become a free agent July 1, raising the prospect that neither West nor Hibbert will be with the team next season.
