Minnesota Timberwolves rookie center Justin Patton had surgery to repair a broken fifth metatarsal in his left foot and will be sidelined indefinitely, the team announced Tuesday.
Patton suffered the injury during a recent workout, the team said. He will not play in the Las Vegas Summer League.
The surgery was performed in New York by Dr. Martin O'Malley, who performed similar operations on Kevin Durant in 2015 and Brook Lopez in 2014.
The Chicago Bulls selected Patton, who played one season at Creighton, with the 16th pick in the draft. He was part of the trade that sent Jimmy Butler from Chicago to Minnesota on June 22.
The Wolves acquired Butler and the rights to Patton in exchange for Zach LaVine, Kris Dunn and the rights to Lauri Markkanen, the seventh pick in the draft.
