Minnesota Vikings wide receiver Stefon Diggs has signed a five-year extension worth $81 million total that ties him to the team for the next six seasons, a source told ESPN's Adam Schefter on Tuesday.
The deal, announced without terms by the Vikings on Tuesday, keeps Diggs with the team through the 2023 season and includes just more than $40 million in guaranteed money, a source told Schefter.
Diggs, 24 and a fifth-round selection in 2015, caught 64 passes for 849 yards and eight touchdowns in 2017. He has 200 receptions for 2,472 yards and 15 touchdowns in 40 career games.
"I love it here. I truly do," he said. "I'm just happy that I'll be here for a while. I'd like to thank them for selecting me in the fifth round. It was a bumpy road that day, and I just remember getting the call, and they gave me a chance. They believed in me from Day 1 and moving forward. They pushed me to be where I am now."
Diggs was on the receiving end of last season's "Minneapolis Miracle" -- a 61-yard catch-and-run as time expired to provide a 29-24 victory over the New Orleans Saints and a trip to the NFC Championship Game.
Tuesday's contract capped a crazy year for the wideout.
"Lot of good things happened, just kind of like football," he said. "Good things happen, bad things happen, kind of roll with the punches. That's how my life has been pretty much. I try not to get too high or too low, just kind of move forward. When great things happen, you take that moment, you savor it. Be thankful for everything that happens because good things don't happen to everybody."
The new contract for Diggs, whose final season on his rookie deal is for $1.9 million, dwarfs the one signed by Vikings receiver Adam Thielen last March. It also makes Diggs the sixth NFL receiver to get a deal worth an average of $16 million per season, but the only one of that group yet to put up a 1,000-yard season.
Thielen, who led the Vikings with 91 receptions and 1,276 yards last season, signed a four-year, $22 million extension that included $10 million guaranteed.
Congrats to my guy! So happy and proud of you bro! One of the real ones right here #letsgoooooo https://t.co/VmToxQYbaj

Diggs and Thielen combined for 2,125 receiving yards last season, which ranked third in the NFL behind Antonio Brown and JuJu Smith-Schuster of the Steelers (2,450) and Julio Jones and Mohamed Sanu of the Falcons (2,147).
Diggs, coming off a career year in which he led all receivers in contested catch rate (64.5 percent), has steadily climbed the ranks and earned his place among the league's top wide receivers.
According to ESPN Stats & Information, Diggs has caught 71.8 percent of the passes thrown to him over the past two seasons, which ranks second in the NFL among receivers with at least 200 targets.
The Vikings have agreed to the most guaranteed money of any NFL team since the start of the 2018 league year, shelling out $212 million.
"It says a lot about the organization as far as what they build and how they build it as far as having young players and building them up and coaching them and bringing them along," Diggs said. "We all kind of grew up together, everybody in my class and everybody here. It says a lot. They like to keep their players here, they like to keep a good thing going, especially if it's something special, and I believe we do have something special with the players that we have and the pieces that we added. Hopefully, we can make this last for a long time."
