Wales recall George North for Six Nations showdown with England

George North is set to make his first Wales appearance in almost a year after he was recalled for the Six Nations trip to England.

Wales coach Warren Gatland has included the Northampton wing on the bench in place of Owen Watkin, the only change to the 23-man matchday squad that beat Scotland on Saturday.

North last appeared in a Welsh shirt in the final match of last year's championship against France in Paris.

Since then he has suffered with form and fitness, but made a try-scoring return for Northampton against Harlequins last Friday and will provide cover for Josh Adams and Steff Evans at Twickenham.

"It's great to name an unchanged starting XV, the players deserve that for a very good performance on the opening weekend," Gatland said in a statement.

"We have made one change on the bench, with George coming in for Owen [Watkin], which is tough on Owen but Josh [Adams] picked up a slight strain last weekend so George provides us a bit more cover there."

Wales team to face England:

Halfpenny, Adams, S. Williams, Parkes, Patchell, G. Davies; Evans, Owens, Lee, Hill, A. W. Jones (captain), Shingler, Navidi, Moriarty.

Replacements: Dee. W. Jones, Francis, B. Davies, Tipuric, A. Davies, Anscombe, North.
