Former world No. 1 Novak Djokovic crashed out of the Australian Open fourth round Monday to South Korea's Hyeon Chung.
Despite two tiebreaks and many long groundstroke rallys, six-time champion Djokovic lost in straight sets 7-6 (4), 7-5, 7-6 (3) to the world No. 58.
The last time Djokovic lost in straight sets at the Australian Open was back in 2007 in the round of 16 against Roger Federer, who secured his quarterfinal place earlier in the day by defeating Hungarian Marton Fucsovics.
Djokovic has been battling with an elbow injury for the past six months, and despite only losing one set through the first three rounds, the Serb has not been totally satisfied with his game throughout the tournament.
In his on-court interview after the game, Chung said of the win: "It feels amazing, Djokovic was my idol."
Chung will face Tennys Santgren next, who upset fifth-seeded Dominic Thiem 6-2, 4-6, 7-6 (4), 6-7 (7), 6-3 to book a quarterfinal spot.
