Andy Murray watched on as Novak Djokovic come from behind to beat Nishesh Basavareddy in the opening round of the Australian Open in Melbourne on Monday.
Murray agreed to coach Djokovic in November, with this month's Grand Slam the first time he will do so at a tournament. However, their partnership did not get off to a dream start.
Basavareddy stunned the 24-time Grand Slam champion by breaking him on the way to taking the first set. But Djokovic resumed usual service thereafter, comfortably taking the next three sets to win 4-6, 6-3, 6-4, 6-2.
Murray, who retired after last summer's Paris Olympics, has long been a familiar sight at Djokovic's matches, although before now most of those had come as his opponent.
The pair faced off 36 times from 2006 to 2022, with Djokovic winning 25 times including four Australian Open finals.
Murray's expertise and knowledge of Djokovic's game could be crucial for the Serb to win a first major title since September 2023.
Djokovic faces Portugal's Jaime Faria in the next round.
