Sun trade rookie Anigwe to Wings for Plaisance

The Connecticut Sun on Tuesday acquired forward/center Theresa Plaisance from the Dallas Wings in exchange for rookie forward/center Kristine Anigwe.

Plaisance is averaging 6 points and 4.4 rebounds and has made 12 starts for the Wings this season. She is second among centers in the WNBA with 23 made 3-pointers this season. In 134 games over six seasons she has averaged 4.5 points and 3 rebounds per game.

"Theresa is a talented, versatile offensive player and is considered one of the best stretch post players in the league. She is someone who we have targeted for a few seasons and we are excited to have her with us. Theresa gives us an experienced, young veteran presence who has a tremendous reputation across the league as a fantastic teammate and unifier in the locker room," Sun coach and general manager Curt Miller said in a statement.

Anigwe, selected No. 9 overall by the Sun in the 2019 WNBA draft, is averaging 2.6 points and 1.8 rebounds in 17 games this season. She was the 2019 Naismith Defensive Player of the Year for Cal before entering the draft.

"This deal brings us a young and athletic post player who will fit well into Coach (Brian) Agler's system," Dallas Wings president and CEO Greg Bibb said in a statement. "We believe Kristine is an elite rebounder with tremendous potential on both sides of the ball and we are excited for her to continue to develop her game as a member of the Wings organization."
