Minnesota Lynx guard Aerial Powers out indefinitely after undergoing surgery on right thumb

Minnesota Lynx guard Aerial Powers underwent surgery to repair a torn UCL (ulnar collateral ligament) in her right thumb and is out indefinitely.

The team announced that the surgery was performed successfully Friday morning by Dr. Sanjeev Kakar at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota.

Powers could miss 8-10 weeks, although no official timetable has been established.

Powers is averaging 10.0 points, 4.8 rebounds, 3.5 assists and 1.0 blocks in four games this season. The Lynx are already shorthanded, also being without forward Natalie Achonwa due to an MCL sprain in her right knee.

The Lynx had a rough start to the season but have managed to bounce back thanks to the return of Napheesa Collier. They are 5-6 and sit seventh overall.
