New York Liberty shooting guard Sami Whitcomb will miss 10 to 14 days with a left ankle injury, the team announced.
Whitcomb, the league's leading 3-point shooter, could be back in time for the Liberty's Sept. 11 game against the Dallas Wings. With the Liberty currently in seventh place, that game plus the final two games of the season could decide if the team makes it to the playoffs.
Whitcomb sprained her ankle during Sunday's game against the Los Angeles Sparks, and the twist looked like it could have been much worse.
She is averaging 12.8 points on 48.5% shooting from the field, 44.2% from 3, 5.6 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 1.2 steals in 25 games with the Liberty -- all career highs.
Whitcomb joined the Liberty alongside Natasha Howard in a sign-and-trade with the Seattle Storm in February.
