UConn women's basketball star Azzi Fudd, who suffered a right knee injury on Dec. 4, has resumed basketball activities, coach Geno Auriemma told reporters Friday.
Fudd will go through workouts Friday and Saturday before next steps are determined, Auriemma said.
"It's getting close," Auriemma told reporters. "... Hopefully it won't be long."
The 5-foot-11 guard was a national player of the year candidate before her injury. Fudd is averaging 20.6 points through seven appearances for the No. 8 Huskies (10-2).
Fudd injured her knee in the first quarter at Notre Dame on Dec. 4, briefly retaking the floor in the second quarter before sitting the entire second half. A few days later, she was ruled out for three to six weeks.
The Huskies, who are coming off a 25-point road win over No. 21 Creighton, host Marquette on Saturday before starting the new year with road games at Butler on Jan. 3 and Xavier on Jan. 5.
Redshirt junior forward Aubrey Griffin will miss a second straight game Saturday after contracting COVID-19 over the holiday break. The Huskies will have eight available players against Marquette.
UConn's next home game is Jan. 8 versus DePaul.
