Iowa Hawkeyes guard Caitlin Clark got the ninth triple-double of her career Sunday, tying her for second in NCAA women's basketball history.
In the visiting No. 6 Hawkeyes' 95-51 victory over the Penn State Lady Lions, Clark had 23 points, 14 assists and 10 rebounds, shooting 9-of-17 from the floor.
She's now tied with former Lamar Cardinals standout Chastadie Barrs, who had nine triple-doubles in her career from 2015 to 2019. The all-time leader is former Oregon Ducks standout Sabrina Ionescu with 26 from 2016 to 2020. Ionescu was the No. 1 WNBA draft pick by the New York Liberty in 2020.
"I try to do a lot of different things for my team," Clark said. "When I am assisting like that, when I'm rebounding like that, it's really hard for us to lose the game because we have so many different weapons. To have that many assists, that means a lot of other people are making shots, and that's just hard to guard.
"It is a really big honor to be with those other names that have trailblazed. Sabrina is the biggest one, and very recent, and somebody I grew up watching."
It was Clark's third triple-double this season -- she also has had four games in which she finished either one rebound or one assist from a triple-double. Sunday's performance followed Clark's 42-point, 7-rebound, 8-assist game in Iowa's victory over the No. 8 Maryland Terrapins on Thursday.
Forward/center Monika Czinano had 14 points and was 7-of-10 from the field; she has shot 70% or better in seven of her past eight games.
"I love when we pass the basketball so well," Iowa coach Lisa Bluder said of the Hawkeyes' 28 assists on Sunday. "Caitlin getting her a triple-double, the ninth of her career -- I just don't know if people understand how special that is, how hard that is. And she's only a junior. This is amazing."
It was the eighth win in a row for Iowa (19-4), which has a showdown with the No. 4 Indiana Hoosiers on Thursday in Bloomington, Indiana.
