AFL semifinals: Teams, results, tips, odds - everything you need to know

Some big names are set to miss for the Saints this week, a skipper is in a race against time to declare himself fit and a key forward is set to return... Here's everything you need to know ahead of the AFL semifinals.

Friday, October 9

Richmond vs. St Kilda, Metricon Stadium, 7:50pm (AEST)

Team news: The Tigers are bolstered by the return of key forward Tom Lynch, who joins Nathan Broad back in the side. Missing out is Jake Aarts and Marbior Chol. For the Saints, they will be without Paddy Ryder (who is out for the season with a hamstring injury) as well as key backman Jake Carlisle (who has left the hub to be with his partner for the birth of their child) and Ben Long (who will also miss through suspension). Coming into the side is Jonathon Marsh, Josh Battle and Shane Savage.

Prediction: The Saints have a reasonable record against the Tigers in recent years, but they might be just off the pace in this one, especially given their outs.

Tip: Richmond by 10 points.

Score: Tigers 80 def. Saints 49

Saturday, October 10

Geelong vs. Collingwood, Gabba, 7:40pm (AEST)

Team news: Collingwood has gone in unchanged from the side that defeated West Coast in last week's elimination final, electing to persist with ruckman Darcy Cameron to share the load with Brodie Grundy. Geelong skipper Joel Selwood has been declared fit enough to take the field after finger surgery during the week. The Cats have still made one change, with Sam Simpson replacing the omitted Tom Atkins.

Prediction: The Cats simply cannot go out in straight sets again. Back them to overcome the Pies who are, in fairness, riding a wave of momentum and will make it a tough contest.

Tip: Geelong by 12 points.

Score: TBA

Odds: Geelong $1.67 vs. Collingwood $2.20
