2010 numbers: He started 10 of the 13 games he played in (7-3 record), and ranked fourth in the ACC in passing efficiency (134.5) and fifth nationally among FBS freshmen. His 22 touchdown passes were third in the ACC and fourth in the FBS among freshmen. He threw for 2,438 yards, 22 touchdowns and eight interceptions. He completed 57 percent of his passes.

Making the case for O’Brien: This just in: O’Brien was a redshirt freshman last season. Now, he’s suddenly one of the veterans in the league. And yes, that gives him an edge. He can make almost any throw, he’s got a great arm, but his best attribute is probably his football IQ. He shouldn’t have any problem adapting to first-year offensive coordinator Gary Crowton’s scheme. He was one of the most efficient rookie quarterbacks in the country last season and should only be better in his second season as a full-time starter.
