Big 12 recruiting scorecard: Sooners, Bears off to big start for 2017

Welcome to the first edition of the Big 12 recruiting scorecard for the class of 2017. Let's get caught up on how the league's recruiting classes are already coming together as we head into junior days.

BAYLOR

Total commits: 6

ESPN Junior 300 commits: 4

The latest: Baylor QB commit Kellen Mond is already making the most of his move from San Antonio to the famed IMG Academy in Florida. Mond received the first invite to the Elite 11 finals after impressing at The Opening Orlando camp on Sunday. Fellow commit Jhamon Ausbon was also named MVP for the WR position at the event.

IOWA STATE

Total commits: 2

ESPN Junior 300 commits: 0

The latest: The Cyclones have already picked up in-state commitments from QB Devon Moore and OLB O'Rien Vance. Moore, a 6-foot-4 pocket passer from Waterloo, Iowa was one of the first players to commit to new coach Matt Campbell.

KANSAS

Total commits: 3

ESPN Junior 300 commits: 0

The latest: The Jayhawks got a nice start to their offensive line class when tackles Grant Polley and Jared Hocker committed to KU at the end of January after taking visits. Both have picked up more offers since, and all three of Kansas' early pledges hail from Texas.

KANSAS STATE

Total commits: 1

ESPN Junior 300 commits: 0

The latest: K-State's first commit for 2017 came earlier this month from ATH Wyatt Hubert of Shawnee Heights. He made his pledge to the Wildcats a few days after his junior day visit and is reportedly being recruited at defensive end, though he can also play tight end.

OKLAHOMA

Total commits: 6

ESPN Junior 300 commits: 5

The latest: Miami CB Trajan Bandy became the Sooners' fifth ESPN Junior 300 pledge when he announced his pledge Sunday. Most of the Sooners' early commits hail from Texas, though, led by No. 2 rated OG Tyrese Robinson out of McKinney Boyd and QB pledge Chris Robison from Mesquite Horn.

OKLAHOMA STATE

Total commits: 1

ESPN Junior 300 commits: 0

The latest: The Cowboys are in the running for in-state CB Justin Broiles, and he's becoming one of the hottest recruits in the country. Broiles' list of offers has rapidly grown to 24 schools in the past few weeks, and he took an unofficial visit to Miami over the weekend.

TCU

Total commits: 3

ESPN Junior 300 commits: 2

The latest: TCU has locked up a steal in their latest commit, WR R.J. Sneed. He scored nine touchdowns and averaged 16 yards per catch during his junior season at Cypress (Texas) Ranch, but his recruitment hadn't really taken off by the time he committed to the Frogs on Feb. 13.

TEXAS

Total commits: 4

ESPN Junior 300 commits: 2

The latest: The Longhorns will be a contender for ESPN Junior 300 LB Baron Browning following his recent decommitment from Baylor. Browning is ESPN's No. 2 rated outside linebacker prospect for 2017 and is expected to attend Texas' junior day event this weekend.

TEXAS TECH

Total commits: 5

ESPN Junior 300 commits: 1

The latest: Texas Tech already had No. 1 rated center Jack Anderson on board for 2017. Now his teammate will be joining him in Lubbock. The Red Raiders' latest pledge came from Frisco (Texas) High OT Dawson Deaton, who chose TTU on Feb. 13 over Houston, Mississippi State and Kansas.

WEST VIRGINIA

ESPN Junior 300 commits: 0

The latest: The first commitment for WVU's class should end up being a candidate for All-Name team honors: Morgantown OLB Maverick Wolfley. He's been pledged to WVU since February 2014, back when he was a freshman, and will follow in the footsteps of his father and his brother (TE/FB Stone Wolfley) in playing for the Mountaineers.
