Big 12 recruiting scorecard: Cowboys find their QB

As we head into the spring evaluation period, here's the latest from the recruiting trail in the Big 12:

BAYLOR

Total commits: 6

ESPN Junior 300 commits: 3

The latest: Baylor is a finalist for ESPN 300 standout Eno Benjamin. The running back from Wylie, Texas, is also considering Michigan, Iowa and Oklahoma State and is planning to announced his decision on Monday night. The Hawkeyes are considered the favorite, but those programs will all keep recruiting Benjamin no matter which one he picks.

IOWA STATE

Total commits: 8

ESPN Junior 300 commits: 0

The latest: The Cyclones are off to a nice start with the 2017 class, and their latest commits commits came from some of their more important recruiting territories. Iowa State added pledges from OT Tyler Jost (Illinois), OT Jeff Nogaj (Ohio), LB Breydon Boyd (Texas) and DB Richard Bowens III (Michigan) to build some solid early momentum.

KANSAS

Total commits: 4

ESPN Junior 300 commits: 0

The latest: Among the visitors Kansas had it town for its spring game were linebackers Dimitri Moore and Greg Jackson from powerhouse Cedar Hill High in Texas. Coach David Beaty has strong ties to that school and will start pulling more players from Cedar Hill in the near future. Maybe a guy like Moore, the younger brother of Texas A&M LB Richard Moore, can get the pipeline going.

KANSAS STATE

Total commits: 1

ESPN Junior 300 commits: 0

The latest: Kansas State got in on the IMG Academy action (like everyone else) by extending an offer to OL Broc Bando. That offer makes sense -- Bando is a Nebraska native who's been in touch with the KSU staff for several years. He recently visited K-State but also has offers from the Huskers, Georgia, Louisville and Mississippi State.

OKLAHOMA

Total commits: 12

ESPN Junior 300 commits: 6

The latest: The Sooners kept their hot start rolling with a pledge from California standout Grant Calcaterra. He should end up being a TE/WR hybrid just like Mark Andrews. He locked down a commitment after taking unofficial visits to both OU and Notre Dame. Oklahoma is already loaded with pass-catchers in this class.

OKLAHOMA STATE

Total commits: 7

ESPN Junior 300 commits: 1

The latest: Oklahoma State found its latest quarterback commit out of the state of Georgia. Jelani Woods is a 6-foot-7, 230-pound passer who turned down offers from Michigan, South Carolina, Louisville, Kansas State and several other programs to pick the Pokes. Woods and 2016 signee Keondre Wudtee should be quality developmental prospects for the next few years.

TCU

Total commits: 3

ESPN Junior 300 commits: 2

The latest: The Horned Frogs hosted a big-time visitor this weekend in ESPN 300 CB Kary Vincent from Port Arthur, Texas. He'll be one of their top DB targets in this class and will include TCU when he puts out his top 10 list in the near future. Vincent is a Texas A&M legacy who wants to visit Ohio State, Ole Miss and Florida next.

TEXAS

Total commits: 5

ESPN Junior 300 commits: 2

The latest: Texas hosted an impressive group of recruits for its spring game this weekend. Along with a large group of their incoming freshmen, the Longhorns had ESPN 300 LB Anthony Hines III, ESPN 300 CB Chevin Calloway, ESPN 300 OT Walker Little and DeSoto, Texas, OG Xavier Newman on campus. Texas also had the state's No. 1 recruit, DT Marvin Wilson, in for a visit last week.

TEXAS TECH

Total commits: 3

ESPN Junior 300 commits: 1

The latest: Texas Tech is one of a few programs in the mix for a late 2016 signee, junior college OL Alex Losoya. The 6-foot-4, 300-pound lineman has four years to play three seasons and recently visited Lubbock. He's also picked up offers from Baylor, Auburn, Arkansas and Missouri.

WEST VIRGINIA

Total commits: 2

ESPN Junior 300 commits: 0

The latest: West Virginia recently accepted a pledge from New Orleans ATH Tevin Bush. He's an interesting take who has a lot of Tavon Austin traits. He's definitely got Austin's size: Bush checked in at 5-foot-6 and 154 pounds at a recent The Opening camp. Bush did hold offers from Texas Tech, Arkansas and Louisville prior to his decision.
