With Big 12 media days less than a week away, the conference has released its preseason All-Big 12 team as well as the winners of its top preseason honors.
To nobody's surprise, Oklahoma quarterback Baker Mayfield was named the Big 12's preseason Offensive Player of the Year by a vote of conference media members. The league's preseason Defensive Player of the Year honor went to Texas linebacker Malik Jefferson after his impressive freshman season.
The Big 12 Newcomer of the Year, an award that requires quite a bit of projecting, was won by an intriguing candidate: TCU quarterback Kenny Hill. The Texas A&M transfer has not been named the Horned Frogs' starting QB yet and is still battling with Foster Sawyer.
Here's the preseason media All-Big 12 team. Not too many surprises here, other than that a grand total of seven defensive linemen ended up earning first-team honors thanks to a tie in the vote. That has to be a record. Oklahoma led all teams with nine All-Big 12 selections.
The Big 12 will release the results of its preseason media poll Thursday morning, so watch out for that.
