          Big 12 Week 3 helmet stickers: Prolific pairs at OSU, Tech share honors

          Week 3 in the Big 12 was marked by the league’s failures on the national level -- at a time when it could not afford to absorb any more damage. Plenty more on that soon.

          For now, there are helmet stickers to award. Here are the best performers from Friday night and Saturday:

          Oklahoma State QB Mason Rudolph and WR James Washington: They deserve stickers individually, but we’ll group the OSU duo for purposes of efficiency. Rudolph broke Brandon Weeden’s single-game OSU passing mark with 540 yards, and Washington finished with 296 receiving yards -- second in school history to Adarius Bowman’s 300-yard outing against Kansas in 2006. Washington’s 231 yards before halftime did establish a school record as the Cowboys piled up 467 yards of offense in the first half en route to a 45-38 win over Pitt.

          Texas Tech QB Patrick Mahomes II and WR Jonathan Giles: Mahomes remains nearly on pace to reach that elusive 6,000-yard mark in a 12-game regular season. (Maybe Kliff Kingsbury was serious, after all.) The junior piled up another 470 through the air in Tech’s 59-45 defeat of Louisiana Tech. He’s thrown for a nation-leading 1,493 yards and 14 touchdowns in three games. Mahomes' favorite target on Saturday, the 5-foot-11 sophomore Giles, caught six balls for 186 yards and three touchdowns.

          Baylor WR KD Cannon: The speedy junior caught nine passes from Seth Russell for 213 yards and two touchdowns in the Bears’ 38-10 win over Rice on Friday in Houston. It ranked as the top receiving figure in the FBS this season -- until Oklahoma State’s Washington surpassed it early in the second quarter Saturday.

          Texas RB D’Onta Foreman: Despite the woes of the Texas defense in a 50-43 loss at Cal, Foreman continued to serve as a battering ram. He gained 157 yards on 21 carries and scored two touchdowns in the Pac-12 after-dark setting.

          TCU RB Kyle Hicks: No drama this week for the Horned Frogs, who stomped Iowa State 41-20 behind Hicks. The junior ran for a 64-yard touchdown in the first quarter en route to 117 yards on 12 carries. He also caught a 25-yard TD pass from Kenny Hill.

          Kansas State FB Winston Dimel: The 235-pound sophomore scored four touchdowns in the first half -- on just five carries, including two out of the Wildcat formation as K-State blasted Florida Atlantic 63-7. In large part because of Dimel, the Wildcats were 8-for-8 in the red zone with eight touchdowns and led by six scores at halftime.
