Ranking the Top 25 Big 12 players: No. 11

The official list of the Big 12's top 25 players is locked away in a vault in an undisclosed location, but we're revealing the list day by day here on the blog. Here's a refresher on my exact criteria.

No. 11: T.J. Moe, WR, Missouri

2010 numbers: Caught 92 passes for 1,045 yards and six touchdowns. Also ran 12 times for 81 yards and a touchdown.

Most recent ranking: Moe was unranked in our postseason list of the Big 12's top 25 players.

Making the case for Moe: Moe is a lot like another receiver who might find a spot on this list: Justin Blackmon. This time last year, you'd be hard-pressed to find anyone outside their home states who knew of either player. It's very different this year. Moe played through a broken foot in 2009, but caught just two passes as a freshman.

In 2010, it took him about a quarter to surpass that. His 92 receptions were third-most in the Big 12, behind only Blackmon and Oklahoma's Ryan Broyles.

He was also one of just four receivers in the league to notch a 1,000-yard receiving season. Of his six touchdowns, none were bigger than the Mid-Moe Miracle against San Diego State, a 68-yard catch and run that rescued the Tigers from an embarassing early-season loss to San Diego State and helped ignite a 7-0 start to the season.

Moe, at 6-foot, 200 pounds, doesn't have extraordinary size or speed, but he has arguably the best hands and the best feel for space on the field of anyone in the Big 12. That combination has allowed him to emerge as one of the league's best receivers, and could give way to an even bigger year in 2011.
