COLLEGE STATION, Texas -- Two of Kyle Padron's first four passes were completed.

The other two were intercepted.

With his team trailing by 14 early, June Jones benched his 3,800-yard passer from a year ago in favor of senior J.J. McDermott.

But he also put the ball in the hands of his 230-pound, 1,400-yard rusher from 2010, Zach Line, who led a touchdown drive to make it 14-7.

I thought pulling Padron was a bit premature, but the move to a more grounded approach has paid off. Line has already carried seven times for 74 yards and scored on a one-yard draw play.

Line got them to the goal line on a 27-yard carry, but the score should help SMU's offense settle down after a nightmarish start in a frenzied atmosphere at Kyle Field.

Regardless of who is at quarterback, Texas A&M is clearly having troubling slowing down Line. He's not running too many guys over, but the Aggies aren't getting to him very early.

That has to change, or a stalled offensive drive could get SMU right back into this game.
