Re-ranking the Big 12's best players: 5-2

We've ranked the Big 12's best players before the season. We've done it after the season.

Time for a midseason checkup.

Here's the next round of my top-25 list, which we'll be revealing throughout the week. Here's more on my criteria.

Got beef? Let me hear it right here.

2. Ryan Broyles, WR, Oklahoma: Broyles has been at his best this season, narrowly edging out Kendall Wright and Justin Blackmon as the Big 12's top receiver through six games this season. He already set the Big 12 record for career touchdowns and the NCAA record for career receptions. So far this season, he's caught 60 of his 326 career catches in 2011, with 815 yards and a nation-leading nine scores.

3. Landry Jones, QB, Oklahoma: The competition for top QB in the state of Oklahoma has been fierce, but for now, Landry Jones has the title. He's outdueled Brandon Weeden and thrown for a Big 12-most 2,177 yards, 16 scores and six picks, but I give Jones the edge for doing it against tougher defenses through six games.

4. Brandon Weeden, QB, Oklahoma State: Check these numbers out through six games. Weeden has 10 fewer yards (2,167) than Jones. They've thrown an identical number of TDs (16) and INTs (6). Weeden's completion percentage is five points higher, but his passer rating is just .16 points higher than Jones. It's so, so close. Just like last year. Both have been among the nation's best, but Weeden has shredded two of the 10 worst pass defenses in the nation through six games. That's the only way I can see separating them. Both have unbelievably talented, deep receiving corps.

5. Kendall Wright, WR, Baylor: Wright's been at his best this year, continuing his assault on the record books at Baylor. His 243 career catches are third-most among active receivers, and he'll lead the Bears in receiving in all four of his seasons by January. He's caught 55 passes for 757 yards and a nation-leading nine touchdowns.
